Conversations with Dean K

August 31, 2009

I met with Dean Karen McLaurin-Chesson ’74, known to many students as “Dean K”, over lunch this weekend. She emailed me Friday to inquire about setting up a blog for the Third World Transition Program. As a blogger and social media enthusiast, I was curious to learn more and so as we sat across from one another in one of Brown’s dining halls, I listened to her reasons for wanting a blog:

  • Celebrate TWTP’s 40th Anniversary
  • Link memories from the past with the present
  • Reconnect with alumni

  • As the conversation continued, we began to speculate about how this blog might evolve into a venue to inform parents, alumni, and other members of the Brown community about the TWC’s work – TWTP, Unity Days, History Months, Weeks, and Series – and an online conversation about how this work has contributed to the Brown experience both in the present and the past. So dear readers, we are opening this blog to you in the hopes that you will be part of this conversation. Please share your memories, insights, and opinions in the posts that follow, and if there are any topics you would like to see explored, please leave a comment.
